What to Do if Your Miami AC Won’t Turn Off

|

Have you noticed that your Miami air conditioning system has been running a lot lately or possibly not turning off at all? All that wear and tear isn’t good for it, and letting it go on too long will send your utility bills into the stratosphere. Use the tips on this page to try and diagnose the cause of the problem.

Culprit: Thermostat Set Below the Capacity of the System

When diagnosing any HVAC problem, it’s best to start with what you can clearly see. With air conditioning, that means the thermostat. Check the target temperature on your thermostat to see if it is below the capability of your system’s output. Most modern AC systems can cool your house to just about any temperature you want, but if an unknowing child were to drop the setting down to, say, 45 degrees Fahrenheit, that’s another story. Your AC system will run and run trying to cool the house, but never will.

Culprit: Lost Cooling

If your thermostat is set to a more reasonable cooling temperature, but the AC is still struggling to get there, then the problem could be lost cooling. The air conditioner is cooling enough air at a fast enough rate to lower the temperature, but too much of that cooled air is escaping. Have a professional inspect your ducts for leaks, as well as look at possible wear or damage to your home’s insulation.

Culprit: Faulty Part

To rule out the first two possibilities, set the thermostat to a temperature that is above the current temperature of the room. Is the air conditioner still running? In that case, you probably have a part on your hands that needs to be replaced or repaired by a technician. The three likely suspects in need of repair are:

  • The thermostat
  • The AC control board
  • The AC control switch

Only a trained Miami HVAC technician can determine the true source of the problem and make the necessary repairs, so the best move is to call one and have your AC system looked at right away. Call Air On Demand today if you need any AC repair!
